Textured Paint
Using textured paint is easy to apply and looks fantastic. It can be used in just about any room in a home to accent furniture, hide stains or damage, or simply add some personality into a room. Many people will hire out their textured paint, but this is something that you do not have to do.
There are several different types, each of which will need different materials to begin with. Glazed paint combined with sponges or rags is very popular. To do this, you will need two shades of paint, a can of glaze, normal brushes/rollers and a sponge, rag or sponge roller.
You will want to start by repairing any holes or damage in your walls, caulking holes and such. After this, depending on the state and color of your current wall, you may need or want to paint a coat of primer.
After priming the walls, you will want to paint your base coat. This will simply be a full coat of paint on the walls with whichever color you wish to be the background.
Next, mix your second color with the glaze. Usually this is done with four parts glaze to every one part paint, but please read the instructions on your glaze as it may be different. Be sure to mix this thoroughly, you want your glaze to be consistent.
After you have thoroughly mixed your galze to make your textured paint, you will begin applying it to the wall. Dampen your sponge or rag first. Dab your sponge or rag into the glaze and begin applying. Remember that you want this to be random, so don’t think to hard, just dab. Every once in a while, take a few steps back and admire your work, you may notice that you need more of the glaze in one area or another, this is fine, just go back and dab some more.
There you go! A simple and easy way to make textured paint a new accessory to your home. Once you try it, you will reallize just how simple it is!
